Below are some answers to questions you may have before visiting us!
What kind of church is this?
The Table United Church of Christ of La Mesa (affectionately called ‘The Table’) is a church uniting people from diverse backgrounds into a loving, joyful, Christ-following church community. Our motto is “Doing together what we cannot do alone.”
We are a United Church of Christ (UCC) Church
We believe in the triune God: Creator, resurrected Christ, the sole Head of the church, and the Holy Spirit, who guides and brings about the creative and redemptive work of God in the world.
We believe that each person is on a spiritual journey and that each of us is at a different stage of that journey.
We believe that the persistent search for God produces an authentic relationship with God, engendering love, strengthening faith, dissolving guilt, and giving life purpose and direction.
No matter who – no matter what – no matter where we are on life’s journey – notwithstanding race, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, class or creed – we all belong to God and to one worldwide community of faith. All persons baptized – past, present and future – are connected to each other and to God through the sacrament of baptism.
What should I wear to the worship service?
Our dress at The Table is casual. Our members wear both casual and semi-formal attire (some men may wear a coat and tie and some women may wear dresses). All are welcome and we want you to feel comfortable when you walk in to worship with us.
Will I have to say anything, sign anything, give anything, or be singled out in any way?
Rest assured that you won’t be put on the spot, singled-out, or embarrassed.
Though we do have an offering time during our service, we don’t want anyone to feel obligated to give…the service is our gift to you! We do like to collect some basic information from people but if you’d prefer not to give it, that’s all right with us.
What is available for my children during the worship services?
The children experience a program of classes during the worship service. They are designed for children K-5th grade. Children begin the service in the Sanctuary, and are invited to their Sunday School class. Nursery care and Preschool are available before and during worship service.
We encourage Jr. High and High School students to attend the 10:00 am service on the first Sunday of the month, on other Sunday’s they begin the worship service in the sanctuary and then will go to the Youth room for the Youth program.
Coffee, Hot Chocolate, WiFi, and Restrooms?
We know how important a cup of coffee is! We want you to be able to relax in our Friendship Hall after services. Coffee, tea, and usually a nosh are available. It is a time to meet others ask us questions. Restrooms are also available down the hall between the sanctuary and Friendship Hall. We do have WiFi internet connections.
