service oppsWe respond to God’s goodness by giving of ourselves. Service is at the heart of community life at The Table: La Mesa. It is the natural response to the Spirit’s refreshment we receive in worship.

Service opportunities emerge with the changing needs of the community.

Currently, we are seeking Visitation Ministers – people from all kinds of backgrounds who would like to receive training to visit people in need. Please contact us for more information.

Following are examples of service opportunities our congregation has embraced:

Blessing Bags are available for purchase. The youth have assembled bags that we can keep in our cars for when people are seeking donations on the street. These include essentials like energy bars, water, toiletries, etc.

The UCC Coffee Project

The UCC Coffee Project is a partnership between UCC Justice and Witness Ministries and Equal Exchange. Equal Exchange is a worker-owned fair trade organization the currently sells coffee, tea and cocoa and chocolate. Through is project farmers earn a fair price for the products of their labor. UCCLM serves fair trade coffee at coffee hour and all church events.

UCCLM Recycles Church members faithfully collects aluminum cans and plastic bottles each Sunday for our music program. Aluminum tab tops are collected for donation to Grossmont Hospital’s Ronald McDonald House. We recycle paper from our office and unwanted church bulletins after each service are collected. As other opportunities arise we will support the reuse of our valuable and scarce resources. Click here to search a web site dedicated to our earth and recycling.

We a;ways have special projects on Martin Luther King Day which provide service to our community.

If you have suggestions for other organizations with whom we could partner, please let us know.
