The Reverend Paula J. Elizabeth – Senior Minister
Our minister, The Reverend Paula J. Elizabeth is a United Church of Christ ordained minister, specializing in transitional/intentional interim ministry. She is also a Spiritual Director with over 20 years experience having been taught in the Jesuit tradition of inclusivity and openness.
Rev. Paula holds a master’s degree in counseling with a specialty in trauma, grief and loss . Other credentials are in mediation, coaching and restorative justice. Rev. Elizabeth also serves on the Church and Ministry Committee for the Southern Association of the Southern California Nevada Conference as well as teaches Sexual Ethics portion of the Ministers’ Boundary Training for the Conference.
The Table: United Church of Christ of La Mesa is pleased to announce our new Music Director! Jim Tompkins-MacLaine.
Jim began his formal musical education at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, studying choral conducting and vocal performance. He then attended Arizona State University, where he co-founded the jazz vocal program.
Jim has a master’s degree in Music History from San Diego State University, where he taught a laboratory class in the history of Vocal Jazz in America. An accomplished tenor, he has sung on six continents, and toured the globe with the Albert McNeil Jubilee Singers, the leading black concert choir in the U. S. Jim also conducts the Pacific Coast Chorale, a 60-voice community choir serving the San Diego area and teaches voice privately. We wish him a great welcome to our Church!

Care is the primary mission of the church. We care for each other and the community through our prayers, by visiting one another in times of distress and through counseling sessions with our Pastor. Kelly holds a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from San Jose State University and a Bachelor’s degree in History from SDSU. She has two wonderful children, Caitlin and Ethan. When she is not driving her children around San Diego; she loves to read, hike, bake, travel, and spend time with her family. She has a hidden talent of cake decorating and can make icing roses!
