Mission, Vision & History

The Mission of UCC La Mesa

As the United Church of Christ of La Mesa  (UCCLM) we strive to:

Love and understand the spirit of God as communicated through the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. Grow with one another by accepting, supporting and loving through worship, service and fellowship. Demonstrate our faith through active involvement in our community and the world in all its diversity.

Our Vision

We want to be and to be known as an extravagantly welcoming, theologically progressive, justice and service committed, youth engaging congregation in East County San Diego.

We build on our long-standing commitment to these four strengths of UCCLM. We invest in each of these core values, as all are necessary for us to be the church we need to be, serving God in this community. We live as a community of abundance, not of scarcity, and we let everyone know we are here, ready to meet their and the community’s needs.

We’re Open and Affirming

As an Open and Affirming Christian congregation, the United Church of Christ of La Mesa believes that God loves and accepts every person. We respect the many and varied faith backgrounds of those who worship with us. The ministry of Jesus included all people, even those excluded by society. With God’s guidance, we covenant with one another to serve our community by welcoming all people without regard to sexual orientation, gender identity, social or economic status, physical or mental abilities, heritage or race. All are welcome at The Table—United Church of Christ of La Mesa and into the full life and ministry of our church.

United Church of Christ

Our faith is 2,000 years old. Our thinking is not.

We believe in God’s continuing testament.  This is why we are committed to hearing God’s ancient story anew and afresh in our lives and in the world today.  We try to remain attentive to God’s creative movement in the world. Religion and science are not mutually exclusive, and your head and heart are both welcomed into our places of worship.  We prepare our members and leaders to be engaged in ministry in the present and future church, and we embrace all kinds of communities and new modes of thinking.  Why? Because God is still speaking.

No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.  As the United Church of Christ the following are new big, bold statements about our:
